Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG)

by
I'm 46 years old male living in Jakarta, Indonesia, diagnosed with Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG).
As the medications are limited in Indonesia, I come to Singapore for treatment. Despite maximum medications (I'm using 4 kinds of glaucoma eye drops : PGA, CAI, beta blocker and alpha agonist), my eye pressure haven't reached the ideal pressure. The consequence is that my visual field deteriorated very fast.

So I came to DR Pat Lim for help (referred by mother in law). She offered me acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Again, since I am living in Jakarta, this is also not an ideal situation since she needs to monitor me closely. I can only visit Singapore every 3-4 months for my eye control and eye drops purchase at western doctor clinic, and visit DR Pat Lim's clinic at the same time.

As my mom is a general acupunturist (she is not a TCM ophthalmologist), DR Pat Lim gives me a workaround: she writes acupuncture points and herbal medicine prescription for me. Such workaround is enough to slow down my disease progression significantly.

On top of that, TCM views glaucoma not only as eye disease but systemic disease. Recent researches in ophthalmology prove this concept. There is a close connection between eye, brain and vascular systems. I came to DR Pat Lim with slightly high blood pressure and insomnia, but with TCM, both conditions are gone. She also advises me to watch my temper/mood and remain calm. Controlling these conditions will help to control the eye problem.

DR Pat Lim is also a nice and helpful person. For emergency and inquiry, I text her for any question and problem, and she will answer me soon. And since she is also a qualified optometrist, she gives me advice on how I should use spectacles in different environments and interact with blue screen devices. Such thing will also help to control the disease progression.
